DESCRIPTION:An Evening of Community\, Connection\, and Celebration!\n  \n \nYou’re invited to gather in community with us at the Stone Pavilion in Washington Park on Saturday\, October 14th  from 5 – 9 PM in the name of supporting access to environmental justice in Greene and Washington Counties. This year\, the Center for Coalfield Justice is marking 29 years of service to our communities\, and we would love to celebrate with you! \nTickets for our Fall Fundraiser are $25 for adults\, $15 for students\, and $10 for children ages 7-11. Admission includes one full meal\, dessert\, non-alcoholic beverages\, and one drink ticket for attendees over 21 years old. Tickets are available online now or at the door using cash\, check\, or card. An all-you-can-safely-drink option is available for an additional $25: it includes a reusable CCJ Klean Kanteen cup and bottomless beer and wine for the whole event (again\, for those attendees 21 years old or older). All guests will be given admission wristbands that indicate whether you are legally old enough to consume alcohol\, and we will enforce this policy strictly.  \nGet your Tickets here! \nWe will have both a silent and raffle auction full of local goods running throughout the event. Bidding will begin at 5:00 PM and continue until 8:00 PM. We will also have live music brought to you by the Dan Baker trio and Patti Spadaro throughout the evening. SUMMARY:Opioid Settlement Funds Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:There is $2.2 billion coming into the state and counties over the next 10-18 years from the recent opioid settlements. These funds are to be used to expand Harm Reduction\, Recovery\, and Substance Use Disorder services. There is a long list of options and strategies for those in charge of the spending to choose from\, and some could potentially do more harm than good. We want to make sure these funds get used properly on strategies that have been proven to mitigate and decrease the amount of overdoses and overdose fatalities in our communities. \nWe recognize that the opioid crisis has impacted many residents in our communities\, and not just the ones struggling with the disorder. These are the people who know best what the community needs in order to decrease the overdose and overdose fatality rate. Their input needs to be included in the decision-making process when it comes to spending these funds. DESCRIPTION:For 5 years\, CCJ has been working with local families who have been impacted by rare childhood cancers. After making demands to Governor Wolf\, local families secured a promise in 2019 that the state would conduct studies observing the apparent increase in rare childhood cancers in Southwestern Pennsylvania. These folks have created a group called “MAD-FACTS: Moms and Dads – Family Awareness of Cancer Threat Spike.” \nThe University of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Department of Health are holding a public meeting at PennWest California University on August 15th to release the findings of the PA Health and Environment Studies in Southwest Pennsylvania. These studies looked at the prevalence of rare childhood cancers\, asthma\, and low birth weights in proximity to fracking in Southwestern\, Pennsylvania. \nMAD-FACTS will be hosting a debrief healing space following the public meeting at the California Methodist Church to discuss the results and be with one another to process what we learn. DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us for food\, games\, prizes\, and community at our 17th annual DRYerson festival on Saturday\, June 24th at 1 pm! The DRYerson Festival at Ryerson Station State Park is a yearly festival celebrating the natural beauty of Greene County’s only state park while  also bringing awareness to the past and current environmental struggles there. The event is free for attendees of all ages. There will be live music by Dan Baker\, free food\, snow cones\, cotton candy\, free shirts for kids to tye-dye\, and for a nominal donation adults can get a t-shirt of their own to tye-dye! DESCRIPTION:Come out to Dutch Fork Lake and join us for 🐠Free Kids Fishing Day🐟 on Sunday May 28th. Kids and adults can fish all day without a license.  We will be set up at the main parking lot by the boat launch from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. \nWe’re so excited to report that we’ve already surpassed our goal for registration: so many kids are going to be fishing with us! We are working really hard to make sure that every kid who comes to this event will have a pole and supplies — but make sure to register soon so we can try to be prepared for you! For those who register after May 19th: if you have your own pole\, bring it with you\, just in case. We’ll have extra poles on-site\, but we can’t guarantee that they’ll be strung. All are still welcome to enjoy the Free Kids Fishing Day and Dutch Fork Lake!  \nIf you are an experienced angler\, come out and help us teach the little ones some tips and tricks!
