Our Environmental Justice Film Series Kicks Off on September 23rd!
Join us on September 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Skyview Drive-in in Carmichaels (film begins at 8). We’ll be showing Harlan County USA, followed by a 20-minute panel with our Executive Director Veronica Coptis, along with Lou Martin and Jessie Wilkerson, to discuss the films’ themes of labor justice, union organizing, and the role of women! Lou is an associate professor at Chatham University who specializes in labor and working-class history in Appalachia, and is also on the board of the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum. Jessie Wilkerson is an associate professor at West Virginia University who specializes in Appalachia, gender, labor, and working-class communities. She is the author of the book To Live Here, You Have to Fight: How Women Led Appalachia Movements for Social Justice.
Admission is FREE! This is our Facebook page for the film screening of Harlan County USA.
Please check our Facebook events page and website events page for more details on this bi-weekly film series!
