Join us for the Center for Coalfield Justice’s 30th Anniversary Fall Fundraiser!

Posted Sep 4, 2024, by Sarah Sweeney

This may be hard to believe, but CCJ is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! That is three decades of service to the communities we call home and we are so excited to be able to celebrate it with you all!

Take a look back on some of our work over the past 30 years!

We will be gathering at the Stone Pavillion in Washington Park Saturday, October 5th from 5-9pm and we would love to see you all there!

Grab your tickets here!

This year we are thrilled to feature music by Aristotle Jones: The Appalachian Soul Man! Hailing from Osage, WV he himself is a descendant of coal miners and farmers and his music beautifully reflects the values we see here in the coalfields. You will love his soulful tunes!

We are also proud to feature dozens of local artists and artisans, many authors, and other local businesses in both our raffle and silent auction. Whether you’re a bookworm, sports fan, art collector, nature enthusiast, cat mom, or foodie, we have loads of goodies you will be pumped to win! Keep an eye on our socials for more sneak peeks of some of the items that have so generously been donated! But the fun doesn’t end there: we are also having a 50/50 raffle!

It wouldn’t be a CCJ party without good food, good drink, and good company! We are thankful for our friends at Rusty Gold Brewing of Canonsburg who are once again providing us with their delicious brews to serve alongside wine. And of course, we have to have a birthday cake! 🎂

There would be no greater birthday gift than having you join us!
We hope to see you there!

Sarah Sweeney (she/her) grew up in a rural area of Greene County, where she lived for most of her life, enjoying the natural beauty and other things a country lifestyle offers, such as foraging for morels, lots of hiking, fishing at popular lake and pond areas, and photographing wildlife. After moving out of the state for a few years in her early 20s, she returned to southwestern Pennsylvania, where she has since lived in Washington County. She has seen first-hand the way the extraction of fossil fuels has harmed not only the once lush wooded areas she called home as a child, but also how people have been harmed. In 2020, she began volunteering with the Center for Coalfield Justice and has continued to volunteer since then, as well as doing several art projects for the organization. In early 2024, she joined the Center For Coalfield Justice as a fellow. She is eager to deepen her understanding of the communities CCJ serves, and be able to provide support to community members who have experienced hardships at the hands of the fossil fuel industry.
