A 30th Anniversary Fundraiser to Remember!

Posted Oct 22, 2024, by Sarah Sweeney

On October 5th, we had the great privilege of hosting our 30th Anniversary Fall Fundraiser and it was definitely one for the books! The Stone Pavilion in Washington Park was the backdrop for our biggest fundraiser of the year. The sun was shining, spirits were high, and our community really turned out with over 100 folks coming together to celebrate all CCJ has accomplished alongside our members and supporters over the last 30 years.

The evening began with guests checking out over 70 donations from a variety of local small businesses, artists, authors, members, and area corporations! We had an assortment of beautiful gift baskets, signed copies of books, several gorgeous quilts, gift cards, and so much more!

I want to give a special thank you to the local businesses and persons who helped make our night truly magical. We kept the drinks flowing thanks to Rusty Gold Brewing, Yoli’s Cucina kept our bellies filled with tasty pasta, Breadworks Pittsburgh kindly provided us with rolls to soak up all that yummy pasta sauce, Walnut Grille generously donated a lovely salad, and we have to thank our own Alli Greenlief for the beautiful cookies! Dianne’s Dishware once again provided us with lovely reusable dishware to keep this event as eco-friendly as possible and Kindred Flower Farm graciously donated some of the most lovely flowers I’ve ever seen! And of course, we enjoyed the soulful tunes of Aristotle Jones throughout the night.

The night concluded with lots of laughter, smiles, excited runs down the aisles to collect raffle and silent auction winnings, and a group photo. The joy was contagious and staff and remaining attendees danced it out before wrapping up for the night! When all was said and done, we managed to raise over $4,000 to help continue our work for Washington and Greene Counties into the New Year!

THANK YOU!

Sarah Sweeney (she/her) grew up in a rural area of Greene County, where she lived for most of her life, enjoying the natural beauty and other things a country lifestyle offers, such as foraging for morels, lots of hiking, fishing at popular lake and pond areas, and photographing wildlife. After moving out of the state for a few years in her early 20s, she returned to southwestern Pennsylvania, where she has since lived in Washington County. She has seen first-hand the way the extraction of fossil fuels has harmed not only the once lush wooded areas she called home as a child, but also how people have been harmed. In 2020, she began volunteering with the Center for Coalfield Justice and has continued to volunteer since then, as well as doing several art projects for the organization. In early 2024, she joined the Center For Coalfield Justice as a fellow. She is eager to deepen her understanding of the communities CCJ serves, and be able to provide support to community members who have experienced hardships at the hands of the fossil fuel industry.
