Join Center for Coalfield Justice on Sunday, May 18th from 1-4 pm one day before the 97th anniversary of the tragic Mather Mine Disaster. At this family friendly event we will commemorate the explosion that caused the tragic deaths of 195 miners on May 19th, 1928. It was the 2nd deadliest mine disaster in Pennsylvania history and 7th deadliest of all time nationwide. This will be a day to appreciate miners of Greene County and their contributions, both past and present. The event will take place at The Liar’s Den covered gazebo alongside the Mather Mine Memorial in Mather Park.

We hope you can join us in remembering, appreciating, and celebrating the contributions of people and the rich mining history of the area. Build community with us and enjoy free food, dessert, kids activities, music, and an informative slideshow presentation about the historical events of that day and what it means for  modern miners & their community today.

If you or your family have any stories, artifacts, or photos from the disaster or the time period of the Mather Collieries Mine please feel free to share those with us at info@centerforcoalfieldjustice.org or at the event.

Take care and see you there!
