For 5 years, CCJ has been working with local families who have been impacted by rare childhood cancers. After making demands to Governor Wolf, local families secured a promise in 2019 that the state would conduct studies observing the apparent increase in rare childhood cancers in Southwestern Pennsylvania. These folks have created a group called “MAD-FACTS: Moms and Dads – Family Awareness of Cancer Threat Spike.”
The University of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Department of Health are holding a public meeting at PennWest California University on August 15th to release the findings of the PA Health and Environment Studies in Southwest Pennsylvania. These studies looked at the prevalence of rare childhood cancers, asthma, and low birth weights in proximity to fracking in Southwestern, Pennsylvania.
MAD-FACTS will be hosting a debrief healing space following the public meeting at the California Methodist Church to discuss the results and be with one another to process what we learn. There will be refreshments available.
