On Saturday, August 20th, CCJ hosted our annual Party in the Park Fundraiser in the Stone Pavilion at Washington Park. The event raises funds to support CCJ’s mission of educating, empowering, and organizing coalfield residents around environmental and economic issues. This was our first time holding the event in-person since 2019, but our community came together to celebrate like never before.
Over 80 residents attended the fundraiser, including both familiar faces and first-time visitors. They enjoyed food prepared by CCJ staff and their families and beverages from Canonsburg’s own Rusty Gold Brewing and Washington Winery. Folk and Americana music by regional band Smokestack Lighting echoed through the pavilion all night long, as guests mingled with CCJ board members and staff. CCJ Executive Director Veronica Coptis and Campaign Director Sarah Martik gave updates on the organization’s growth and successes over the past 3 years.
The event also featured a raffle and silent auction offering 40 items and baskets donated by over 35 local artists, businesses, and individuals. Some prizes that were won throughout the evening included fresh produce from local farms, handmade pottery and wood art, free yoga classes and guitar lessons, and a pair of vacation stays in West Virginia and South Carolina.
In all, the event raised $5,375! We greatly appreciate every single person who attended the event, donated tickets, or made a virtual contribution. Without the support of our community members, CCJ couldn’t continue to fight for our region and its people, so from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all for this special night.
