Ballot Guide for Washington and Greene Counties

On November 5, 2024, we’ll be headed to the polls once again to decide who will represent our communities in our state and federal government offices. This year, as we do every four years, we will elect the President of the United States. However, the President isn’t the only thing we’re voting for this year – keep reading to learn more about what else is on the ballot this year, who’s running in each race, and links to each candidate’s issues and campaign finance reports.


UNITED STATES SENATOR

United States Senators represent the entire state of Pennsylvania in the higher chamber of our national Congress. The Senate is usually composed of representatives with more experience and often holds more influence to dictate law and policy than the House of Representatives; however, both chambers have the same ability to progress law. Senators also have the added duty of confirming heads of agencies and federal judges, including Supreme Court Justices.

Pennsylvania Attorney General

The Attorney General is the top law enforcement officer in the state. They investigate and prosecute crimes and represent the Commonwealth in cases brought against it. The Attorney General can only investigate environmental crimes with a referral from a county DA or agency with enforcement authority.

Pennsylvania Auditor General

The auditor general’s job is to ensure that the state’s money is being spent “legally and properly,” which they do through audits.

Pennsylvania State Treasurer

The State Treasury acts as the bank for our commonwealth. The Treasurer oversees those activities, which include receiving, distributing, and investing state money.

Representative in US Congress – 14th Congressional District

Representatives in the House Chamber are seen as the junior members of Congress and are focused on passing laws that improve our country.

Similar to the US House, representatives in the State House are also focused on passing laws and holding hearings on issues that impact our Commonwealth.

Remember to choose the candidate that best represents you and your beliefs, no matter which party they represent. If you aren’t happy with the choices on the ballot, you can write in the name of the person you think would be best suited for the job. Voting is critical to our democracy, so we must make sure we vote on November 5. Encourage a friend to vote, too!
