The Senate and House passed HB 1100, which would subsidize petrochemical development in Pennsylvania from now until 2050, costing taxpayers $22 million per year for each facility that takes advantage. It is up to Governor Wolf to veto the legislation and save taxpayer money.
Take Action and Demand Gov Veto HB 1100
When Shell shopped around the idea of building an ethane cracker plant in Appalachia, Pennsylvania lured them here with the largest tax break in PA’s history – $1.65 billion. This was supposed to be a one-time break, but PA legislators want to extend that same tax break to any petrochemical companies that want to use Pennsylvania’s fracked gas in order to double-down on their fossil-fueled vision of turning our state into a plastics manufacturing hub. HB 1100 represents yet another investment into a fossil-fueled economy, one that locks us into years of increased extraction and production, meaning more impacts to our air, our water, our communities, and our vulnerable economies.
